My guest poster today is former DC Comics’ editor and writer Scott Peterson. Scott was at DC Comics from 1991-1998, and WildStorm from 2006-2010. Scott offered to tell the little known story of how DC came to introduce a new Batgirl into the DCU — Cassandra Cain. HIs post on the secret origin of how a second Batgirl came to be follows.

I would happily speculate, but I HONESTLY don’t have a clue.
For a lot of reasons, the big publishers have to be a lot more careful about spoilers, and so a lot of cards are played more closely to the chest. The people writing this character may not know what I have planned for Batgirl, either. The level of communication is different now.
While it’s nicer for everyone to know everything, the truth is, that model doesn’t work well in the internet age, sadly.
I honest have no idea.
Suddenly I’m thinking of a Batgirl-Batwoman ship and I’m having a lot of trouble finding a problem with that.
